The big question is . . . IS Bradley the heir apparent?! Let's look at some history. Paterno's best teams were arguably co-authored by Sandusky and Ganter. Sandsuky couldn't outlast Joe and has said as much in comments made at Second Mile functions.

Fran turned down a job at MSU and eventually even became assistant head coach. Can't be any more heir apparent than that, right? Well, where is Fran now?

I'm afraid it is going to take a leap of faith to think that Bradley will fare any differently.

I used to look down my nose at those folks that thought Joe was grooming Jay to be the next coach--couldn't happen I thought. I'm not so sure anymore.

Let's say Bradley goes. There are rumors that schools are interested in LJ Sr and Vanderlinden as well. Norwood has already jumped ship. Galen is not going to coach forever.

Jay may become the senior man on staff in a couple of years.

And that would make him, um, the heir apparent.

I'm calling bullshit on this one, at least for now.

I've talked to a couple WVU people who, in the past, have had decent information. Bradley's name wasn't even mentioned, not as the head job anyway. Jimbo and Bowden are the two most public names.

Even if they do offer, I don't understand the appeal of the WVU job right now, especially for a guy who is the front-runner for the post-Paterno job.

It is a scary thought though.

http://thebigeleventh.blogspot.com/
