2009 Schedule Official

Submitted by Charlie on January 29, 2009 – View Comments

All that talk about a possible ACC team finding its way onto Penn State’s football schedule this fall? Its beginning to look like it won’t happen. All that talk was premature in the first place considering Virginia will already be on our non-conference rotation 2012-2013. The ACC would be one of the last conferences Penn State would want to renegotiate with for a last minute switcheroo.

2009 Penn State Football Schedule

Sept. 5 AKRON

Sept. 12 SYRACUSE

Sept. 19 TEMPLE

Sept. 26 IOWA (1)

Oct. 3 at Illinois

Oct. 10 EASTERN ILLINOIS

Oct. 17 MINNESOTA (2)

Oct. 24 at Michigan

Oct. 31 at Northwestern

Nov. 7 OHIO STATE

Nov. 14 INDIANA

Nov. 21 at Michigan State

(1) All-University/Varsity “S” Day

(2) Homecoming

As much as Penn State would like to hype up the Iowa game, consider the absence of Greene like the loss of Mendenhall for Illinois. They will be overranked entering the season only to drop out by season’s end. Iowa this year was last year’s Illinois. And the September 26th game will be their rude awakening. The Ohio State game on November 7th will be Beaver Stadium’s 300th home game. Odds are it will be a full stadium white out for that one as well for all the hype and promotion purposes.

Its disappointing that our non-conference schedule this season will be even weaker than our last one, fans do deserve alot better. More on that coming soon.

Devon Addendum: For everyone who is still holding out hope that Disney might jump in and save the schedule like they did with Oregon State last year, I’ve got some bad news.  That game was officially added December 12th, and there were some rumblings about it in the preceeding weeks.  So everyone, this is the final schedule.  I’m sorry.  I’ll try and poke around and see if there are any discussions going on behind the scenes, but I doubt it.  If a replacement does happen (which it won’t), look for the Akron or Temple game to slide into the October 10th date.  Most other BCS games don’t have an open date in the middle of their season, so that’s anoth er logistical nightmare to work out.  The signs point to absolutely no changes.
