As Professor Farnsworth might say, “Good news, everyone.”
And just as in Futurama, this is of course followed by a horrible, terrible announcement.  Namely, that Ed DeChellis has, avoided the chopping block.  Kudos to David Jones on the scoop:

RPI This! Penn State beats Sparty at Breslin Center 71-68

Submitted by Charlie on February 1, 2009 – View Comments

What a weekend. First Michigan fans are whining up a storm about refereeing.

Then Penn State pulls out its first win at the Breslin Center for the first time ever outlasting the Spartans 72-68.

1st 2nd Final
Penn State 38 34 72
#9 Michigan State 37 31 68

Penn State hasn’t had a signature road win yet? Try #9 Michigan State at the Breslin Center.

They came within a basket of winning it at home a few weeks ago, but the Spartans managed to escape Happy Valley with the W.

It’s record now against the RPI Top 50? How about 2-4, which easily could have been 3-3.

And now with this win, Penn State should be gaining in the RPI.

If there is anything to take away from a stunning victory today it should be. MAKE YOUR FREAKING FREE THROWS. It seemed like Penn State missed every one of their second half free throws except 1. 8-17 free throw shooting is unacceptable at home, let alone on the road in the Big Ten. That’s 47% free throw shooting. Hell, they have a even better chance of hitting their free throws if they launched it over their backs.

I hope Ed runs free throw shooting drills until their hands bleed when they get home.

Otherwise, what a weekend. Well done Lions, well done.

    Great minds think alike, Charlie.
  • Hell yeah. We need to finish the season strong to really ensure a March Madness spot, but that win was just incredible. We almost did it earlier in the season against Wisconsin in Madison, but we got the job done today at Michigan State.
