Penn State: Where 3-16 Is Celebrated

As Professor Farnsworth might say, “Good news, everyone.”
And just as in Futurama, this is of course followed by a horrible, terrible announcement.  Namely, that Ed DeChellis has, avoided the chopping block.  Kudos to David Jones on the scoop:

Two Really Quick Basketball Scheduling Notes

Submitted by Devon on April 22, 2009 – View Comments

In 2009, Penn State will be competing in a preseason tournament: the Charleston Classic, along with South Carolina, Miami (FL), and a handful of decent midmajors.  The games will be televised on ESPN-plus, which includes ESPN 360 for college students, and regional coverage for those in PA.

It’s a tournament that Penn State can definitely win, though Miami and USC are solid teams.  Still, Penn State should be the favorite to win the Classic.  That said, a dissapointing early loss wouldn’t be unprecedented, especially with a young team trying to find itself without Pringle and Cornley in there.

What’s truly dissapointing is Penn State’s draw in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge.  Not only does Penn State get saddled with yet another road game, but it’s going to be in Charlottsville, VA.  That’s right, the #4 team in the Big Ten last year drew the #11 team from the ACC.  Meanwhile, Indiana gets rewarded with a game against Maryland.  It’s like the organizers of this challenge are trying to kill our RPI.

So a couple dissapointing notes today, it would’ve been nice to play in a “big” preseason tournament (Maui, Alaska, Preseason NIT) but even nicer to get a draw against FSU, Clemson, or BC in the Challenge.

A quick programming note: Don’t think we’ve forgotten the position profiles.  With the Blue-White game quickly approaching, keep on visiting NittanyWhiteOut for your Penn State news!

Is there even a format as to how the Big Ten ACC matchups are made? Want to make it an equal Challenge, pit the #1 Big Ten versus the #2 ACC and go down from there. The conference that went the furthest in the tournament the previous year gets home field and they alternate down the list.
