Imagine going to a Penn State football game in the middle of autumn. What are the sights and sounds? Joe Paterno on the sidelines. The Blue Band playing the fight song. Students dressed in white. And the score board showing a lead for the Nittany Lions.

What is missing? The greatest mascot in college sports of course, the Nittany Lion.

A couple weeks ago I started up the campaign to help get the Nittany Lion a spot in the Mascot Hall of Fame. Things are coming along well but we could still use the feedback form the fans. Today I ask you to respond to the cause by sharing your thoughts and memories of the Nittany Lion. Just answer any of the following questions;

  • How does the Nittany Lion best represent the Penn State community?
  • What helps the Nittany Lion stand out from the rest of the mascot world?
  • How has the Nittany Lion enhanced your game day experience?

That’s it!  I urge you to get your responses in by the end of the week if possible.

You can also help by spreading the word about this campaign.  For starters, you can join the Facebook group.  Send an e-mail to your local newspapers or your favorite sports writers.  We still need a sports writer (or more) to submit a piece in support of the Nittany Lion.

I’ll submit a follow up next week about where we stand.  If you have any questions or want to help just leave a comment here and I will get back to you.
