UPDATE: We Want the Lion in the Mascot Hall of Fame
About a month ago we started up a campaign to ensure that the Nittany Lion would be enshrined in the Mascot Hall of Fame and the feedback has been tremendous. Our Facebook group has grown to over 500 members and includes a number of our Penn State blogging brothers and sisters, football players, many Penn State students and even a meteorologist for 6 ABC in Philadelphia! So where do we stand on our application process?
We are still looking for some testimonials from some significant people. We have put out the word to various sports columnists and we are now putting forth an effort to do some interviews ourselves with some influential Penn Staters. If you feel you can contribute with this cause, by all means go for it and let us know!
I am happy to say that we have received an outstanding video that will be used in the application. You can view the video here. Thank you to James Sheep for your contribution. I am setting up a deadline for all material to be in by next Wednesday, June 10. The deadline for the nomination to be received is June 15, so we are getting down to crunch time!
WE WANT THE LION…IN THE MASCOT HALL OF FAME!!!

Nice video, I wonder if the Penn State athletic department has any resources for this considering it would benefit them considerably.
I emailed a bunch of State College, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Reading sports writers for letters of recommendation for the Lion. I hope someone steps up!
Thanks Joseph, I forwarded the emails of sports editors at the Centre Daily Times to Kevin as well.
I say we call up the current Lion, Clint Gyory, and see what he has to say.
I might suggest getting in touch with Jackie Esposito and Steven Herb, they put out the book The Nittany Lion: An Illustrated Tale, which covers a lot of the history and background. They were both university employees, archivists in Pattee/Paterno, so if either is still there I imagine they could be found in the people search, they also might be able to help get heavier hitters to come to bat, Joe and Sue did the foreword for their book.
