Penn State Countdown: 74
‘If you strip Notre Dame down, they look just like us. There’s no ghosts. There’s no such thing as the luck of the Irish.’

The capacity crowd at Notre Dame Stadium began celebrating before the game even began. Ranked number 1 in the nation, and well on their way to Miami for the Orange Bowl, Irish fans simply saw the Nittany Lions as a minor roadblock to an eventual national championship. When the Irish took a 21-7 lead into the half, there was no reason to doubt the final outcome.
Unfortunately for the 59,075 in attendance that afternoon, Craig Fayak and Penn State clawed their way to a 24-21 victory following a 39-yard game winning field goal with 8 seconds left in the game.
