Talor Battle and Team USA finished the 2009 World University Games with a disappointing Bronze Medal after beating Israel 91-80 in Belgrade, Serbia. Penn State’s pride and joy, Talor Battle finished the game with 12 points on 2 for 3 shooting from beyond the arc, joining 3 other US teammates in double figures.

Battle averaged 10 points throughout the tournament shooting 52 percent (13-25) and led the US squad with 13 threes. His 13 assists, 6 steals and 19:51 minutes a game were good for second on the squad in all 3 categories.

And in yet another prime example of the fairness of the playoff format, the United States managed to go undefeated in all their games, only  losing a 1 point heart breaker to Russia, while the team they already defeated 68-66 along the way, Serbia, played their way back into the title game where they handily defeated the Russians 73-51. Sure, sure the game they lost to the United States was during preliminary group matches, but so much for the playoffs being the end all for determining undisputed national champions. Just my two cents.
