2009 White House Declared for Iowa

Submitted by Charlie on July 29, 2009 – View Comments

It is now official. Iowa will be the next opponent on the chopping block to face Penn State in the famed White House this season.

The White House guarantees that the Hawkeyes will be at a disadvantage, but don’t count them out just yet. The Lions are just 4-6 against the Hawkeyes in the friendly confines of Beaver Stadium. They are however 7-4 when playing the Hawkeyes on the road.

And though the record might indicate otherwise, the Lion / Hawkeye series has really been extremely competitive over the years and this season should not be any different as both teams have an equal shot at the conference crown.

Of the past 7 matchups, 2 have gone into overtime (2000 / 2002), 1 was won by a 1 point margin on a game ending FG (2008),  1 was won by a 2 point margin (2004), 2 were won with a 7 point margin (2001 / 2003), and only once was the margin of victory greater than 7 (2007 – a 27-7 win). Unfortunately the Hawkeyes are 6-1 in all these matchups with the lone loss in 2007.

I'll be there wearing gold! I really look forward to seeing your stadium and game day atmosphere. Should be a great game. Go Hawks.
  • I hope you have a great time in Happy Valley next weekend. Just be on the lookout for those typical fans who seem like they're on a mission to make an ass of themselves. I've personally always thought the Steelers are in town whenever we play Iowa, but you'll be amongst the best atmosphere in college football next Saturday hands down.

gonna be the hawkeyes are gonna be 7-4 at beaver stadium when this is all said and done. a bunch of white isnt gonna change that.
  • I sure hope not. Though Penn State has always had trouble with the Hawkeyes just like Joe did with Lloyd Carr.

Not to be picky, but why would you say the series record indicates something other than an extremely competitive series when the record is 11-10 Penn State?
  • Well since 2000, Iowa has been 6-1. But only once in those 7 games was the margin of victory larger than 1 touchdown.
