Lou Holtz predicts Notre Dame is in the center of the Universe

Submitted by Charlie on August 24, 2009 – View Comments

In yet another episode of Lou Holtz the clown tour, the once Fighting Irish coach predicts a national championship game between the Florida Gators and the Fighting Irish (!!!!!!). And how do you know when you’ve already lost all credibility and respect among college football fans around the nation? When nobody is actually shocked he picked the Irish in yet another blatant example of homerism.

Now just about everyone expects this team to be good, with returning wide receivers, and the second coming of Touchdown Jesus in Clausen, they have to right? They’ve had 3 years to struggle, so they must at least resemble some form of decency in their final years is the theory behind this. Unfortunately no one has come to terms with the reality of how bad a game time coach Charlie Weis actually is in addition to his inability to coach and motivate his way out of a paper bag. A fact clearly evidenced by the simple lack of discipline across the board (especially on the offensive line, you can’t coach your line to do basic blocks?) during the worst Irish campaign ever. I guess you really don’t have to when you are being paid millions in guaranteed money and basically promised tenure halfway through your first season.

But it will be absolutely thrilling to watch Irish fans squirm and the excuses they come up with yet again this year after they fail to reach the lofty perch that Lou Holtz and many like him have predicted for their beloved dimming program. They sit #21 on our final preseason Blogpoll ballot, but I won’t be surprised if they even struggle with their first few games against bottom rung Big Ten squads.

I personally believe Penn State at #5 is way too high to start the season, but that’s how the numbers added up and once the first games are played, I’m sure we’ll have a much better idea of how the teams look on the field.
