Penn State releases depth chart
Today Penn State released their official depth chart for the 2009 season opener against Akron. As expected there were not too many surprises on hand.
Daryll Clark will be backed up by freshman Kevin Newsome, and Matt Mcgloin picks up the third string job behind center. Evan Royster heads the list of running backs with Stephfon Green named as the primary back-up.
At wide receiver the starting jobs have been awarded to Brett Brackett, Derek Moye and Graham Zug.
On defense the big news is probably the fact that Sean Lee will play the outside linebacker position as opposed to where I thought he might play, middle linebacker. Josh Hull will take over in the middle and Navorro Bowman will play on the other outside linebacker spot.
Jerome Hayes will start at left end and all Penn State fans will be watching him, hoping for a boucne back season after a pair of ACL injuries the past couple seasons.
At corner back D’Anton Lynn has picked up a starting job on the right side.
Check out the entire depth chart below.

Looks like I guessed wrong at LG, WR, and CB. Oh well.
Really surprised that AJ Wallace is on the 2nd team behind Timmons as opposed to starting at at right cornerback instead of Lynn. This could either mean Wallace was disappointing during the offseason and was not able to grab a starting spot, or Lynn blew the coaching staff away and asserting himself as a starting corner as a sophomore.
I'd bet it means they trying to motivate him, if anything. These don't mean much, typically.
If I recall correctly, AJ got in trouble for skipping some summer classes and goofing off. I would imagine why this puts him on the 2nd team behind Timmons. I'd imagine the nickle package would include Lynn Thomas and Wallace….
Shocked that Hull is in the middle, maybe the blitz will never come from the middle?
I hope that's the reason. Was just expecting AJ Wallace to pick up that second corner spot. Really surprising it ended up going to a sophomore.
