Lion Shrine Attacked by Gophers. Rivalry elevates to Orange

Submitted by Charlie on October 14, 2009 – Comments

So where were the Lion ambassadors for this? Other than the ability to walk backwards, isn’t guarding the shrine the other requirement to being one?

May the hate commence for those who think Maroon and Gold are appropriate colors for grown men.

woah when did this happen? I walked past it last night and the shrine was fine

Isn't it a little unethical to put your url all over photos that aren't even yours? If you took them I can see the logic, but this is the second time now that you've taken images you didn't produce and put nwo across the front-and-center of it.
  • No, clearly gave credit to where it and from who it was found (in bright white letters) plastered right across the center of the image. Having cropped and retrouched the photo, I thus make sure that this version is specifically found on this site. If anyone wants the original, they know where to find it seeing as they have been given total credit (HT) for it.

I assume you mean that's a twitter address, which isn't clear, and if so I have no idea where the actual location of the original use is. Also, did they give you permission to use and doctor their photo? Finally, what value did you add to the photo that justifies you putting your spam across the front of it?
  • Dude, no offense, but get over it. If I really wanted to claim that picture, I'd have copied and pasted it and not given a damn. I've plastered where the picture was originally obtained by me (and yes, its a twitter account and a twitpic) in bright white letters across the center of the picture.

This same picture is now copied on facebook, and twitter giving the exact same reference (RT @onwardstate) as I have. So I really don't care if you don't feel like I've given 'enough' credit, but I've gone out of my way to actually provide a reference on a picture I could have simply copied and pasted. If people want the original picture, they can find it just as I have done and feel free to doctor the twitpic as they choose.

I'm not trying to get personal or accuse you of anything, but what you are doing is inconsistent with the way photos have been credited in the past. When the NYT prints an AP story with a photo, they don't put "@AP" on it and then blast "newyorktimes.com" all over Obama's face or whatever. They just reprint the picture. It comes across spammy on your part, that's all I'm saying. And if you did that to a picture I took it would bother me unless you asked permission, which it doesn't sound like you did.
  • I understand, but that's just the new standard we've been using on our pictures now. We do provide credit as much as we can, and most of the tips come from twitter and we always provide a HT for it. But we put our url on it to prevent other blogs from simply copying and pasting it directly from us without at least referring to the original source we got it from which in this case would be @onwardstate. This allows us to at least maintain credit for finding the picture ourselves as well as give credit to where we found it from.

I find it funny you're so offended. Its a blog, in reality he can do everything short of selling that picture for profit seeing as the picture is free game and on social networking sites. By putting his url on it, he is simply forcing other blogs interested in using the same picture to actually search for the original rather than copy and paste off him. He doesn't even have to put a HT on it either, but he's done so.

If people don't want their pictures reused and altered, then don't put them on social networking sites. Simple enough.

Gotta give props to the masked stranger who did this. Takes balls

I still remember the Ohio State attack on the banner right within Paternoville. This has to be just second to that. Wonder if someone can return the favor next year.
  • Name
I remember that too! It actually seeped through and stained the rock outside the student section. This is smarter than permanently defacing property imo.
  • PSU
Too bad those jackasses got the cheap knock-off banner instead of the real one that was safe and sound in the officers' tent.
  • Name
I did not know there were 2 banners. I thought they defaced the first one and Paternoville created a second one to replace it. Quite a gutsy move to spray paint a banner sitting in the middle of Paternoville.
  • PSU
Nope, some kids who showed up Thursday night or Friday made a banner with duct-tape letters, then hung it on the rock. The official banner (used all year) was hung at the front of the line and was taken down every night in case of theft or vandalism.
  • @mikekheid
It's time to bring back the guards at the lion statue.

I can't believe this happened. I am so enraged. We better beat down minnesota this weekend. Those damn gophers. We should harass and kidnap their mascot.
  • I can't believe they had the time to pull this off considering the size of the cloth he covered the statue with. He was also able to tie it down with string!
  • See you at the Bank
I applaud the Gopher fan for bringing a little enthusiasm to the rivalry without damaging property. This is how true rivalries are created and I only hope Penn State fans will return the favor with as much thoughtfulness in mind.

Just wait til we get our shot at the Gophers this Saturday. Let's hope we can do our talking on the field.
  • Eric Decker will be a beast to stop. I'll be interested to see if the secondary can contain him long enough for the front four to get to Weber. I still have flashbacks of Hardy running wild and catching balls at will against us.
  • CoralGablesLion
14 catches, 142 yards, 10.1 yards a catch and 2 TDs. We CANNOT let this happen against Decker.
  • PSU
this was CLEARLY an inside job
  • Mitch Tanner
You think? Last inside rivalry stunt was done by Sue Paterno. That just doesn't look like Sue to me. Could be a fraternity prank though. Still think it's a Gopher fan
  • PSU
Dude has a blue hoodie on underneath. And you really think NO ONE walked by during the whole time?

A real Minnesota fan would've done something quicker.
  • Mitch Tanner
Interesting... shirt looks oversized too like it was borrowed.
  • Erroneous! Erroneous on all counts! Hahaha, you guys sound like the birthers! An inside job requires planning, but the shaky picture taken by what was probably a phone indicates the lack of planning. I really hope this wasn't an inside job.
  • CoralGablesLion
Could be worse. At least it wasn't paint. Its ok, we'll beat the Gophers black and blue this weekend.
