Top heavy SEC leads Charlie’s Week 5 Top 25

0-3 in the ACC, Florida State fans should be used to this by now. I should start making these pictures an ongoing series.
So how exactly is the SEC not top heavy again? That conference is clearly a two horse race between ‘Bama and Florida. Everyone else is just playing for bragging rights this season. It’s surprising how all those media types still fresh off of berating the Big Ten for being a two horse race between the Buckeyes and Wolverines all those years before are now coincidentally quiet.
Even Andy Staples of Sports Illustrated was reduced to recycling the Big Ten brand of football as “boring” in his column this week,
There’s a conference like the Big Ten that plays a boring style and always wonders why it doesn’t get more respect (the Big Ten).
yet he conveniently seems to forget the sleep inducing games between South Carolina / NC State (7-3), Vanderbilt / Mississippi State (15-3), South Carolina / Ole Miss (16-10), or even LSU / Florida (13-3) all from this season. And we’re only 5 weeks in.
I guess “boring” stops applying south of the Mason Dixon line. I’ve yet to receive that memo.

W Ole Miss 22-3. Another dominating defensive effort against Ole Miss. Next up: South Carolina |

W @ LSU 13-3. The Gators lead the nation in total defense and it clearly showed against LSU. The Tigers were only managed 3 points against Florida. Whether Tebow could play or not eventually did not matter as the Gator’s defense dominated in Baton Rouge. Next up: Arkansas |

W Boston College 48-14. Virginia Tech has emerged from its early season fumble against Alabama to be the elite of the ACC. They easily took care of Boston College and if they dismantle Georgia Tech this weekend, the ACC will be theirs to lose. Next up: @ Georgia Tech |

W Colorado 38-14. Down 14-10 to Colorado? Not good Longhorns. They get a good opportunity against the Sooners next week but I don’t even think a win over Oklahoma will be enough to propel them past the 1-2 punch of Bama and Florida. Next up: Oklahoma |

W Michigan 30-28. They survived a scare from the Wolverines under the lights at home, but eventually got the job done. They now enter a tough stretch beginning with Wisconsin this week. Next up: @ Wisconsin |

W Miami (OH) 37-13. I’m a little weary of ranking Cincinnati this high especially after a win over Miami (OH), but they will get a chance to justify their ranking against a dangerous South Florida team on upset Thursday. Next up: @ South Florida |

Idle. Here’s a fun fact for you. Did you know Notre Dame is a few seconds from being undefeated? Yea, ESPN has been touting that horn all week in an attempt to hype up what has become an extremely one sided rivalry. What they seem to forget is that the Irish are also about 60 seconds from being 1-4. Forget the rivalry. This weekend’s game won’t even be close. USC traded punch for punch against what has proven to be one of the most dominating Buckeye defenses in recent memory and still came up on top. The Trojans should carve up the Irish’s piss poor excuse of a defense at will. Next up: @ Notre Dame |

W Wisconsin 31-13. I don’t even know if the Buckeyes can be rewarded for their performance against the Badgers. Wisconsin’s offense performed much better but it was the Buckeyes’ defense that came up on top scoring more points than the entire Wisconsin offensive unit. Next up: @ Purdue |

L Florida 13-3. I can’t really fault the Tigers for a loss against the top ranked Gators. I do see more Tiger losses as they finish out their conference schedule though. Next up: Auburn |
