Cue the Monkey! OT Khamrone Kolb picks the Blue and White
(HT: Penn State clips)
Offensive tackle Khamrone Kolb out of Lake Braddock Secondary School in Burke, Virginia made a verbal commitment to Penn State today. Rated a 3-star prospect by both Rivals and Scout and the #42 player overall at OT by ESPN, Kolb becomes the 20th member of the impressive 2010 class.
He was at the Minnesota game over the weekend for his official visit and gave Joe Paterno his commitment at the end of his visit. Prior to the visit, he had narrowed his list of 10 scholarships down to Penn State, UConn and Virginia.
“After the game and before he went into his press conference, I talked to Joe Paterno,” Kolb said. “I told him I was committing. He said something like, ‘We better have you by now.’ He joked and said something else like ‘I wouldn’t like you if you didn’t commit.’”
At 6′6″ 300 lbs, Khamrone Kolb has exceptional size for a player still at the high school level. ESPN had this to say about him:
“He has exceptional size and really moves his feet well for such a big man. He takes short steps and gets in sound position on the reach and zone block. Comes off the ball a little high which is understandable due to his height. He needs to put his hands into the frame of the defender; his elbows are too wide at times. Inconsistent at delivering a powerful first blow. Does a very good job of knocking defensive lineman off the line of scrimmage. Can keep the pass rusher off his body and buy time for the quarterback; must be careful with a speed rusher off the edge.”
Don’t be fooled, Kolb can dominate the line of scrimmage and this is a major pickup for the 2010 class. His high school Offensive line coach claims that they clocked his 40 at a 4.9. A 6′6″ 300 pound player that runs a 4.9 is incredible.
By the time of his verbal, he was holding 10 scholarship offers from Virginia Tech, Wisconsin (they know their linemen), Illinois, North Carolina and several others.
Welcome to Penn State Kolb!
