Penn State. Ohio State.

The names beg to be recognized as elite powers each year and since Penn State joined the Big Ten the rivalry has really taken shape over the better half of this decade.

Sure, the 1994 63-14 thrashing may have set a spark in the series that really began in 1993, but to many the rivalry that is Penn State-Ohio State has really developed this decade, at least according to most Penn State fans. Yes, Ohio State probably still looks past Penn State in terms of rivalries as Michigan remains the big game for them west of the border.

No matter. The facts speak for themselves. This decade how many Penn State-Ohio State games have had the Big Ten’s top spot on the line? How many Ohio State-Michigan games have?

This series has it’s iconic moments, but to me the 2005 game continues to sit atop them all. I vividly remember the ‘94 game as that team remains my favorite team in program history, but the 2005 game had so uch more going for it. I thought there would be no better way to kick-start this week than by revisiting that cold, damp October evening.

We’ll have more as the week drags on of course, but feel free to share your favorite Penn State-Ohio State memories at any time in the comments section! Devon has already gotten the week long activity started.

Your point about OSU/PSU being for the title or at least with title implications is a good one. With the series tied at 12-12, I expect this meeting to be just as interesting since OSU needs a big win and PSU needs to win big to help stay in BCS bowl-berth range.
