Submitted by Charlie on January 29, 2010 – View Comments

Congratulations to the Penn State community in their successful drive to raise THON awareness. As of 4:30 PM today (1:30 PM PST) the Penn State twittering community, in a Colbert Nation like movement, managed to propel #THON into the Top 10 trending topics worldwide. Yes, you read that right. Worldwide across the entire twittering community.

This movement was propelled largely by Khloe Kardashian‘s suprising shout out on behalf of THON today triggering a mass movement by #THON supporters across the country.

[Update 5:46 pm EST] And now Jay Sean has jumped on board

[Update 6:42 pm EST] Whitney Port of MTV’s The Hills and The City has joined the movement. Thanks to reader psufan for the tip.

[Update 1/30/10] Newest celebrity on board the #THON movement. Lindsay Lohan’s twitter shout out

As the largest student run philanthropic movement in the world, THON embodies the best in the human spirit. It doesn’t really matter what their individual motivation behind supporting #THON is, whether it be for the Greek system, a THON alumni or someone who has encountered someone with cancer first hand; when thousands of students get together in a fight against pediatric cancer, it is for an amazing cause. Over the past 32 years, THON has donated more than $61 million to The Four Diamonds Fund and has helped more than 2,000 families battling pediatric cancer.

With just a couple of weeks left til THON 2010, I urge everyone to stop by the Bryce Jordan Center and see it first hand Feb 19-21. For the Kids!
