Make it 5: Anthony Alosi commits to Penn State
Anthony Alosi, the 6-6, 286 lb offensive tackle out of Princeton (NJ) Hun School called Penn State’s assistant coach Dick Anderson Saturday night to commit to the Blue and White. He becomes the 5th member of the 2011 recruiting class and the first in over 4 months since the last recruit, Angelo Mangiro committed in late July.
Although he is rated a 1-star recruit by Scout and unranked by Rivals.com, Alosi had the benefit of taking the prep route following his graduation from Cherokee HS at just the age of 17 where he added 26 lbs and 2 feet inches to his 6-4, 260 lb frame. Alosi received light interest initially out of high school (scholarship offers from Temple and I-AA programs, Monmouth and Wagner), including a preferred walk-on invite from Penn State before deciding to matriculate at Hun School of Princeton for an additional year of growth and maturity. A decision that would pay off when he received scholarship offers from the programs including UConn, UMass and Penn State.
He was in attendance for Penn State’s comeback win over Northwestern last weekend to earn win #400 for Joe Paterno. “I was always looking for great football and a great atmosphere… There’s really nothing like when I go to the games and see the atmosphere and all the fans and all the loyal people of Penn State football. It’s just one of the best feelings in the world.”
When asked about his decision, Alosi had this to say.
“I committed to Penn State about an hour ago. It feels great, it feels amazing,” he said. “Coach Anderson called me a couple of days ago, he said that they have a few scholarships for this class, they were low, and they picked me as one of the guys that they wanted to fill those slots.”
Here are some of Anthony Alosi’s highlights during the 2009 SportsWeave All-American College Football Skills Academy in Charleston, WV
A highly disruptive force on the defensive side of the ball, including a great initial burst right from the snap and quick feet where he has great potential to succeed in pass protection.
It is great to see recruiting pick up from it’s 5 month long lull and Alosi’s commitment will only provide further momentum heading into the final stretch of the 2011 class. Welcome Alosi!
