Aaron Hernandez's Lawyer Thinks He Was Murdered

Former New England Patriots tight end and convicted murder Aaron Hernandez was said to have committed suicide early Wednesday morning, although not everyone is convinced that Hernandez killed himself.

He says Hernandez was looking forward to an opportunity for a second chance to prove his innocence in the 2013 slaying of Odin Lloyd. Furthermore, officials said Hernandez did not seem suicidal, because if so, he would've been transferred to a mental health unit.

At the height of his career with the New England Patriots, now Super Bowl champions, Hernandez was on a five-year contract worth $40m (£31m). His lawyer Jose Baez believes that Hernandez was optimistic that he would have his previous murder conviction for the 2013 fatal shooting of Odin Lloyd, in which he was serving life without the possibility of parole, overturned.

The department said the former NFLer was in a single cell in a general population unit.

The body of the 27-year-old former athlete was found hanging from a bed sheet at the Souza Baranowski Correctional Center in Shirley, Massachusetts.

The jury found Hernandez not guilty of first-degree murder in the killings of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado.

The way Hernandez reportedly killed himself is believed to be the first time an inmate was able to do so at the maximum-security prison in Shirley. "Those who love and care about him are heartbroken and determined to find the truth surrounding his untimely death".

Miami Dolphins center Mike Pouncey, a college teammate of Hernandez's, said on Instagram: "To my friend my brother!"

Hernandez previously played with the Patriots from 2010 to 2012. Martin W. Healy, legal counsel for the Massachusetts Bar Association, told The Boston Globe that due to this rule, "Aaron Hernandez will go to his death an innocent man".

The Worcester County district attorney's office and the Correction Department are investigating. He was acquitted on Friday of a 2012 double homicide in Boston. Authorities tried to revive the former New England Patriots tight end, and he was pronounced dead at UMass Memorial - HealthAlliance Hospital in Leominster at 4:07 a.m.
