With the help of wealthy family and friends in China, Li, a Northern California mother of two accused of killing the father of her two children, is posting $35 million in bail for her release from jail pending trial.

San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe told the LA Times the bail sum - described as "mind boggling" in one news report - would be the highest ever posted in the wealthy county's history.

Li's mother and friends raised more than $4 million in cash and put up about $60 million in property to cover Li's $35 million bail, the AP said.

If Li fails to show for any of her court appearances, the court will forfeit the cash bail and the property will be subject to forfeiture by the county, Wagstaffe said. Li has been in jail for about a year.

In this May 23, 2016 photo, the front gate is shut at the mansion where Tiffany Li lived in Hillsborough, California. His office asked for it to be $100 million.

Tiffany Li rushed out of the jail Thursday at about 1:45 p.m. with a bodyguard, wearing a baseball hat and a hood pulled tight around her head.

Under the terms of her release, Li will be required to stay at her home.

Her attorney Geoff Carr said Li and her mother were born in China, where the mother was financially successful in the construction industry. The precautions to prevent her escape back to perhaps, China, where her family is are going to be at the very heart of Thursday's hearing.

In March, prosecutors submitted a motion that would require Li submit to special Global Positioning System monitoring after hearing from the Sheriff's Office that it does not have the capability to ensure she remains inside her home 24/7. Green's body was found along a dirt road in Sonoma County May 11 and an autopsy determined he was killed by a single gunshot.

The prosecutors pointed to Li's fear of losing custody of the children as her ultimate motive for the crime.

Carr said she and Green had reached a custody settlement in court days before his death.

Li's boyfriend, Kaveh Bayat, and a second man, Olivier Adella, were also arrested and charged in the death.

Prosecutors originally asked for Li's bail to be set a $100m as she is considered a flight risk due to her ties to China and her family's "enormous wealth".

Mr Carr said he expects Li to be freed pending her murder trial in September.

If Li does flee, the court can confiscate the property and cash.
