The Election Commission of India (EC) on Friday directed both factions of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) to remove the "two leaves" symbol from all its official websites and social media and submit the compliance report by April 8.

The bye election in Dr.Radhakrishnan Nagar (R.K.Nagar) constituency was necessitated by the death of late chief minister J.Jayalalithaa on December 5, 2016.

Speaking to The Hindu during his campaign at Nethaji Nagar, Mr. Ganesh alleged that the AIADMK (Amma) has been distributing anywhere between Rs. 4000 and Rs. 10,000 to voters urging them to vote for its candidate T.T.V. Dhinakaran. However, they denied that they are purchasing votes with money.

As RK Nagar constituency is the most prestigious one in Tamil Nadu considering it was represented by Jaya in her lifetime, the two groups of AIADMK are hellbent on winning the by-elections, by hook or crook.

The fight for the Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister seat is getting murkier day by day.

The opposition parties have been alleging that money was being distributed to voters by the ruling camp.

He demanded steps to stop it. The Panneerselvam faction has fielded E Madhusudanan.

Video footage of TTV Dinakaran supporters distributing cash to voters have also gone viral.

In her plea to the CEO, BJP state president Tamilisai Soundararajan too made several references on the alleged money distribution and sought steps to halt the corrupt practice and ensure free and fair election.

"They say it is happening unnoticed, if it is so how they came to know of it", he said.
