Montgomery kept it rolling by taking a shutout into the seventh inning, and Matt Holliday and Aaron Judge hit long home runs as NY ran its winning streak to eight games with a 7-4 victory over the Chicago White Sox.

The Chicago Cubs avoided a fifth straight loss in Major League Baseball, while the New York Yankees' winning streak was ended. Starlin Castro has been rolling as of late, picking up multiple hits in three of his last five games, and Chase Headley has been just as hot, piling up nine hits and scoring six runs in his last six games. Matt Holliday launched a three-run blast into the cosmos and Chase Headley ripped an RBI double into the left field corner that Melky Cabrera misplayed, on a night in NY where many a Holland fastball was squared up and damaged. The left fielder was back in the lineup Monday night, batting third against his original team.

"First innings are always tough for me, I just got to settle in and find my tempo", Montgomery said.

The Chicago White Sox and the New York Yankees will be wrapping up their Major League Baseball series from Yankee Stadium on Wednesday.

Brewers slugger Eric Thames had two doubles and three hits but ended his franchise record-tying homer streak at five games.

"Our pitching has been really good", manager Joe Girardi said. Cruz followed with his second homer, lining a 1-1 pitch to center to make it 3-0. His fastball topped 99, allowing three hits in a career high eight innings, and Severino struck out 10 and did not allow a walk. Bird struck out as a pinch hitter in the eighth. He has four homers in 10 games this season, already halfway to his total in 123 games last season.

Yankees fifth. Matt Holliday strikes out swinging.

They'll look to extend their winning streak - which is now the longest in the major leagues - when they host the White Sox in the start of a three-game series tonight at Yankee Stadium. Jacoby Ellsbury singles to shallow infield. Cabrera was wearing a ski mask with the first-pitch temperature at 46 degrees. He had runners on in every inning, including stranding the bases loaded in the second when he got Ben Revere to fly out.

Chicago left-hander Jose Quintana returned a favor to Jimmy Fallon, teaching "The Tonight Show" host a few Spanish phrases in an appearance Tuesday night.

Brett Gardner was presented with his AL Gold Glove Award before the game. The Yankees also missed a chance to open up 8-0 at home for the first time since 1987. Frazier will most likely not be a part of the future of the White Sox, so the team should consider getting Davidson comfortable at third base, who could be just as productive if he continues to generate offense and improve his skills.

Offensively, the White Sox will look to the middle of their lineup to get some production against Jordan Montgomery. He has only played twice since April 11.

Yankees catcher Austin Romine has had the best view for two of Luis Severino's best starts as a big leaguer. Yolmer Sanchez singles to right field. Top prospect Gleyber Torres (right shoulder tendinitis) was placed on the seven-day DL with Double-A Trenton.

On the 94th anniversary of the first game at original Yankee Stadium across 161st Street, the Yankees lost for the first time in eight home games this season (see full recap).

5 runs, 6 hits, 1 error, 1 left on.

Lance Lynn outdueled Ivan Nova, and Kolten Wong hit his first homer of the season to help St. Louis end its three-game losing streak.

Kurt Suzuki hit a one-out single in the Braves ninth off closer Brandon Maurer (0-1).
