Ariana Grande Pens Emotional Open Letter Following Fatal Manchester Attack

Kelley Robertson | 28 May, 2017, 01:38

The arrests were made after searches in Cheetham Hill area of Manchester, where a controlled explosion was used to gain entry into an address. A woman was arrested late Wednesday but was later released without charge.

Over the past three days several key details of the investigation, including the name of the bomber, first came out in USA media, angering British police who feared such leaks risked compromising their investigation.

On Wednesday, there was a series of raids in Manchester, Wigan and Nuneaton, Warwickshire.

More information is emerging about Salman Abedi, the man who murdered 22 people outside an Ariana Grande concert.

A spokesman for the local counter-terrorism force said his brother Hashem Abedi was arrested on suspicion of links with the so-called Islamic State and was suspected of planning to carry out an attack in the Libyan capital.

Also in custody is Abedi's father, who was detained in Libya, and two of Abedi's brothers, one in Libya and another in the United Kingdom.

Elders at the south Manchester mosque believed to have been frequented by Abedi insisted that his actions were wholly alien to their preaching, and pointed the finger at online radicalisation. Soldiers are on the streets of London, a deployment created to free up police officers to pursue the terrorists behind the attack. A statement by her family described her as "everyone's friend, thoughtful beyond belief with an effervescent and outgoing personality". She described the attack as "very wicked".

"It's awful. Very wicked, to target that sort of thing", the 91-year-old monarch told 14-year-old Evie Mills and her parents. They described their daughter as "vivacious and full of fun".

Britain's senior-most counter-terrorism officer Mark Rowley had said that Scotland Yard had reviewed security at more than 1,300 events across the country and people could be "100 per cent confident" that they were doing everything possible to protect them. One of those killed was an eight-year-old girl.

Police have identified all 22 people who were killed and their families have been informed.

A minute's silence was observed in honour of the victims at a square in central Manchester, after which crowds broke into an emotional chorus of "Don't Look Back in Anger", an old hit song by the band Oasis who are from the city.

The Financial Times reported that such images are available across a restricted-access encrypted special worldwide database used by government ordnance and explosives experts in about 20 countries allied with Britain.

"I don't want to go the rest of the year without being able to see and hold and uplift my fans, the same way they continue to uplift me", she wrote.

The calls were thought to have been made five years ago, after Abedi left school, the community worker added.
