A U.S. woman has been awarded more than $100,000 (£77,000) after being severely scalded by a cup of Starbucks coffee.

She accepted a Venti size cup of Pike's Place coffee, and as she attempted to hand it to her passenger, the cup's lid popped off.

In the latest hot-coffee lawsuit, a Florida woman was awarded $100,492 Thursday after a 2014 incident at a Starbucks drive-thru in Jacksonville left her physically scarred, reports the New York Post. The slip led to the scalding, 190-degree beverage to pour on her lap, her attorneys said in a statement.

The jury awarded Mogavero $15,000 for medical bills and additional $85,000 for her pain and disfigurement.

She suffered permanent scarring as a result.

John McCain (R-Ariz.) said the president's mounting scandals were inching towards Watergate proportions. For the sake of the republic-as much today as in 1974-the president must be impeached.

Her lawyer argues that Starbucks should warn their customers that the cover can come off with the Cup.

During trial, a Starbucks representative reportedly testified that the company receives 80 complaints a month about lids coming off and leaking like this.

"My client didn't want sympathy from the jury - she wanted justice - and the jury gave it to her with its verdict", said her lawyer, Steve Earle, in a statement. Because the lids compress the cup, they pop off easily when someone grabs too high on the cup, said Steven Earle, one of Mogavero's attorneys.

HuffPost contacted Starbucks and Mogavero for comment Saturday morning. Starbucks said it was considering an appeal, adding that the company stands behind its employees, maintaining "that they did nothing wrong".
