Former Fox News chief Roger Ailes dies at 77

In a tweet on Thursday, Bush said, "He wasn't ideal, but Roger Ailes was my friend & I loved him".

"He was... profoundly grateful to live in a country that gave him so much opportunity to work hard, to rise- and to give back", the statement read.

Ailes' career in media and politics spanned more than five decades.

He saw something in me and many others he hired that we never saw in ourselves, and forever changed the trajectory of thousands of peoples lives.

Ailes died after a fall at his Palm Beach, Florida, home on May 10 caused bleeding on the brain, the Palm Beach County Medical Examiner's Office said.

The controversy really gained steam in July 2016, when Fox News anchor Gretchen Carlson filed a lawsuit against Ailes alleging sexual harassment and wrongful termination.

Sherman also tweeted out that, "A Fox News employee who'd been sexually harassed by Ailes said this morning, "Justice". Ailes denied the allegations. "Roger shared my vision of a great and independent television organization and executed it brilliantly over 20 great years".

The founder of Fox News and longtime Republican political operative had a profound influence on American life, building Fox News into a powerhouse that transformed the media landscape and conservative politics. Ailes left Fox with a tarnished legacy over allegations of sexual harassment.

So, it seems like no coincidence that when Ailes died Thursday morning, his widow snubbed Fox News and gave the scoop to the Drudge Report.

Few of the reactions on the right acknowledged the accusations levied against Ailes that led to his resignation at Fox News, and those that did chose to minimize them in a "nobody's perfect" fashion.

In a corporate plummet heard around the world, Fox News founder and former chairman, Roger Ailes, was forced to relinquish his position at the helm of the conservative network past year amid a sensational sexual harassment scandal.

Fox is owned by Mr Murdoch's Twenty-First Century Fox Inc.

Ailes, an OH native, began his television career in the early 1960s as a producer at The Mike Douglas Show in Cleveland, and went onto serve as media consultant for several Republican presidents, including Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan.

Fox News promoted Republican candidates and causes and relentlessly attacked what it perceived to be liberal bias in the mainstream media and the entertainment industry.

"Ailes had a clear vision for a alternative news channel in 1996, and by rigorously managing its conservative content, he build the most powerful and profitable news brand in the world".
