Jon Stewart, more join Colbert on 'Late Show'

Could there have been a more perfectly timed "Daily Show" reunion on "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert"?

Fake news heroes assemble!

The "filthy" gag is presumed to be a reference to Colbert's monologue last week in which he made an oral-sex joke about Trump and Russian ruler Vladimir Putin.

"I can't believe you're leaving us, Stephen, it's insane", Helms added.

Jon Stewart considers many of his former Daily Show co-workers to be family - and like any good Jersey boy, he gets protective when his family gets threatened.

"I would spend days with the worst homophobes and the worst people you could possibly imagine", Bee said.

Corddry even hung up a poster of his favorite comedians: Bill Cosby andJ ared from Subway.

Samantha Bee, who plays one of Colbert's colleagues in the sketch, walks into the office kitchen while Colbert packs up his belongings, including his "lucky mug", his "lucky box of free printer cartridges" and a not-so-sleek "tangerine iBook".

The show wrapped up with Colbert and his guests thanking Stewart for giving them their first real breaks.

Speaking to DH in his home country , he said: "My year has been frustrating, but, at the same time, I've continued to progress and learn".

"You look like a garden of earthly pleasures", Stewart added, "and I am a small handful of potpourri".

Colbert took a trip down memory lane to his last day working at The Daily Show.

Colbert asked. "That's what surprised me, was not that it happened, but after so many years of people kind of knowing the behaviour he was accused of - and the cash payoffs and stuff like that, and settlements". 'Which is hilarious because that would mean Trump fired James Comey for making him President.

He then weighed in on the recent backlash surrounding his friend Colbert. "Now you literally shovel it".

Stewart continued to mention the controversies surrounding Colbert. "Like, it's the difference between insult and injury".

The show kicked off with Stewart, 54, preparing a large and savoury sandwich with a side of marigolds (not radishes). "Washington Post, New York Times, they're really, really dishonest", he explained.

Before the old Daily Show alumni joined them, Colbert and Stewart sat down one-on-one, where Stewart lightly addressed the host's "potty mouth".

His Midnight Confessions book, coming September 5 from Simon & Schuster, will feature some of Colbert's funniest pleas for forgiveness from the show, as well as fan-submitted confessions.
