Kelley Robertson | 28 May, 2017, 02:26

Allman was the lead singer of the pioneering Souther rock band-famous for songs such as "Midnight Rider", "Melissa", and "Whipping Post"-for 45 years, despite the tragic motorcycle death of his bandmate and brother Duane Allman in 1971, at the age of 24 (the band was founded in Jacksonville, Florida in 1969)".

His passing was announced on his official website Saturday at around noon.

The band's 1973 album Brothers and Sisters featured the hit single "Ramblin' Man", which went to number two on Billboard's Hot 100 chart. "Playing music lifted him up and kept him going during the toughest of times", the announcement said.

Gregg Allman's soulful vocals and Hammond organ were key ingredients in the group's sound, while he also wrote or co-wrote numerous band's enduring signature hits, including "Whipping Post", "Midnight Rider", "Melissa" and "Ain't Wastin' Time No More".

Some fans had been hoping that they would be given the option to opt out of Europa League fixtures altogether, but that is not the case.

During his life Allman faced multiple health issues.

On Saturday, May 27, 2017, a publicist said the musician, the singer for The Allman Brothers Band, has. His love for his family and bandmates was passionate as was the love he had for his extraordinary fans.

The website statement concludes, "The family will release a statement soon, but for now ask for privacy during this very hard time".

Allman leaves behind five children (Devon, Michael Sean, Elijah Blue, Delilah Island and Layla Brooklyn), several of whom carry on their father's musical legacy in their own bands.
