Penn State women's lacrosse falls to Maryland in NCAA semifinals

Through four years at Maryland, the senior class never lost a game at home.

For the second straight year, the Penn State women's lacrosse team watched its season end just one win shy of the national championship game.

"You get experience from being there, but each year is different because your team is different", Maryland coach John Tillman said.

"I think that's something we kind of talked about, kind of blocking it out for the year".

This was a spectacular season for BC's women's lacrosse program in what many expected to be a bit of a rebuilding year.

In the second half, Denver pushed back. Part of the reason Maryland didn't rush the field after beating Albany was related to a dust-up after winning the Big Ten Championship against Ohio State. We have a lot of respect for them, and every time we play them, we play to the best of our ability.

"I feel like when you have played a team in the regular season and you get to see them in the postseason it helps".

What a fantastic job Acacia Walker has done since taking over as Boston College head coach.

A second-straight trip to the NCAA Women's Lacrosse Final Four left Penn State with a familiar feeling - disappointment.

Tewaaraton finalist Matt Rambo (154) broke Joe Walters' program goal scoring record (153) with his first goal of the game against Denver on Saturday.

Six Pios scored in defeat, while Ethan Walker and Nate Marano each had two goals a piece.

The call came less than two minutes after the Terrapins had a goal disallowed under the same rule. They were trailing the Terrapins 5-3; they had committed more turnovers; lost the battle for ground balls; had taken far fewer shots; and each team won the same number of faceoffs, an area Denver typically dominates.

Defensively, Ingrid Boyum took the hard-luck loss.

Congrats to the players and coaches on a season of new records and successes! The two teams were both ideal in clear attempts with Navy attempting 18 and Boston College attempting 16.

But unlike the leadup to those title games, Maryland will have the luxury of accelerated preparation on Sunday because it is already well-versed in Ohio State's personnel and tendencies.

Penn State was led offensively by Katie O'Donnell's four goals, while fellow midfielder Maggie Gallagher joined her with a hat trick for the Nittany Lions. Larkin scored the first two goals, while Harris ended the run with her first goal of the game with Je. BC's Kenzie Kent finished with five goals and five assists. They mounted a steady 5-3 run throughout the third and into the the fourth quarter, tying the game at eight with just 10 minutes left.

The Terrapins set the tone of the game off the opening draw. Larkin and A. O'Sullivan each added goals to put Navy up four.
