About 70 have been killed in bomb attacks on churches in the cities of Cairo, Alexandria and Tanta since December.

The so-called Islamic State has taken credit for a Friday attack on Egypt's Coptic Christian that left 29 dead, according to the Associated Press.

A man covers the blood stains of victims on the road leads to St. Samuel, the Confessor monastery in Maghagha, about 220 kilometers (140 miles) south of Cairo, Egypt, Saturday, May 27, 2017.

Six air strikes against "terror camps in Libya" were reported by the state-run television.

The attack came after church bombings in December and April claimed by Daesh that killed dozens of Egypt's Coptic Christians. Islamic State, also known as IS, ISIS, ISIL or Daesh, claimed responsibility for those attacks.

Following the attack, President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi had said that "Egypt will not hesitate to strike terrorist camps anywhere whether they are, inside or outside the country".

The army spokesperson said Egypt's military conducted an intensive airstrike against terrorists' camps in Libya after ensuring their involvement in planning the Minya attacks.

A statement issued by UN Spokesman Stéphane Dujarric said Guterres condemned the terrorist attack, saying: "There can be no justification for such horrific violence". "Many wounded", Evangelist Franklin Graham, the president of Samaritan's Purse, tweeted as details of the attack emerged.

In the Vatican, Pope Francis, for the second day in a row, expressed his solidarity with Egypt's Coptic Christians following Friday's attack. However, the jihadist group was later chased from the city by local fighters and rival Islamists.

State television cited the health minister as saying the attack, which prompted widespread global condemnation, killed 28 people.

U.S. President Donald Trump also vowed to crush "evil organizations of terror".

Last month, Pope Francis visited Egypt in part to show his support for Christians living in the Muslim majority Arab nation who have been increasingly targeted by Islamic militants.

Copts make up about 10% of Egypt's population of 92 million.

The detentions took place during raids in the desert terrain of the Minya governorate where the attack took place, and other regions of Egypt's south, the Al-Ahram newspaper said Sunday, citing sources in the security services.
