A Cincinnati school spokeswoman says an 8-year-old student who killed himself two days after he was knocked unconscious at school never told staff he'd been assaulted or bullied and instead said he had fainted.
The video then reportedly shows other students mocking the boy and kicking him before the assistant principal and nurse come to revive the victim.
Branch says that school officials told Taye's mother that her son had fainted.
According to her attorneys, Reynolds didn't learn of the schoolhouse confrontation until her attorneys got a copy of a police investigative file that described the surveillance video.
An Ohio county coroner will be reopening and reviewing the hanging death case of 8-year-old Gabriel Taye after the boy's school released troubling video allegedly showing the boy unconscious on the schools bathroom floor.
Reynolds told WLWT her son spent a significant amount of time in the school nurse's office and there were some days Gabe simply wanted to stay home.
He lays on the bathroom floor for several minutes. The coroner's spokesman said Friday that Sammarco wasn't available to discuss the investigation being reopened.
Florida woman awarded $100000 for Starbucks coffee burns
She accepted a Venti size cup of Pike's Place coffee, and as she attempted to hand it to her passenger, the cup's lid popped off. A U.S. woman has been awarded more than $100,000 (£77,000) after being severely scalded by a cup of Starbucks coffee.
Surveillance video, which has not been released publicly, shows a boy punching and assaulting other students before Gabe walked in. Then for nearly five minutes, other students stepped over, pointed, mocked, nudged and kicked Taye as he lay still.
The Hamilton Country Coroner said she was re-opening an investigation into the suicide to determine any contributing factors leading to his death.
"Jennifer Branch, the family's attorney, described the scene for Cincinnati.com: "[Gabe] actually attempts to shake the assailant's hand, and the assailant pulled him forward and slammed him into the wall and he is knocked unconscious for seven-and-a-half minutes". "She also contacted Gabriel's mother and asked her to pick him up and take him to the hospital to be checked out", the district said in a statement.
The Cincinnati school district released the video Friday after media reports of the detective's email surfaced. "On the eve of Mother's Day, it is unfortunate that CPS chose to blame Gabe's mother for not taking him to the hospital after he was injured at school".
Taye's cause of death had originally been ruled suicide after he hanged himself at home on January 26. "They didn't tell her the whole story", Leader said. Once at the hospital a doctor diagnosed Gabriel with a stomach virus and sent him home with his mother, reports the Chicago Tribune. The mother's attorneys said her sister, who was caring for the boy while she was at work that night, called to tell her the boy had been vomiting.
What happened to Gabriel is not an uncommon scenario at Carson School, said Branch. There are many other questions to the school administration as little boys sometimes fight and they don't often commit suicides after one loss...
A Cincinnati Public Schools statement that was released on Thursday prior to the footage becoming public said officials at the school had said that he was "motionless", but denied the assault allegations, according to The Huffington Post.
