Totti is not normal - De Rossi emotional after Roma icon's farewell

I will fold it nicely, even if I have to admit I'm not ready to say it's over and maybe I never will be.

A World Cup victor with Italy in 2006 when he played in all seven games, his trophy haul with Roma was surprisingly modest - a single Serie A title in 2001 and two winners' medals from the largely unloved Coppa Italia. And I can no longer slip back in.

Francesco Totti has come on as a second-half substitute in his last match in a Roma shirt, concluding a 25-season career with his hometown club.

The second part of Totti's statement, when he mentioned a "new challenge", inferred that Totti is considering ending his career with another club.

Although he wasn't named in the starting lineup, he was introduced with about 40 minutes to play and the crowd showed him their appreciation.

As for Sunday, Totti is not expected to start.

On March 28, 1993, Totti made his debut for Roma with the end coming at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday, in an emotional farewell to a packed Roman crowed.

Diego Perotti grabbed a 90th-minute victor for Roma as they finished one point ahead of Napoli whose 4-2 win at Sampdoria on the final day of the season was in vain.

Jurgen Klopp: Liverpool are back where they belong
Some fans had been hoping that they would be given the option to opt out of Europa League fixtures altogether, but that is not the case.

Totti will play against Genoa this weekend in his final appearance for the club.

He told the Gazzetta dello Sport: "There are some people who are not normal, they do not have normal life stories, and in this case we're talking about a football player". No other active player has more than 200.

"I know how hard it is to be in a city and a club that divides everyone, but Totti managed to unite everybody". I'm afraid. It's not the same fear you feel when you're standing in front of the goal, about to take a penalty.

During the post-match ceremony, a huge No. 10 jersey with Totti's name on it was unveiled at the center of the pitch.

Totti ends his Roma career having played 47,098 minutes in Serie A, the equivalent of 32 days and 17 hours, and he reminisced about his sole Serie A title in 2001.

In 1998 at the age of 22, Totti became the youngest ever Serie A captain.

Whether or not there will be more highlights next season — somewhere — remains to be seen.
