Michael McCarthy, the man accused of killing 2-year-old Bella Bond, has been found guilty of second-degree murder by a Suffolk Superior Court jury.
The jury had been deliberating since June 20.
He said the prosecution's hopes and prayers were with Rachelle Bond, and that he hopes she can get on the path to recovery.
Suffolk County prosecutors said McCarthy, the then-boyfriend of Bella's mother Rachelle Bond, killed Bella, put the toddler's body in a trash bag and dumped it into the water near Deer Island. Her body washed ashore Deer Island two years ago Sunday.
Bond said McCarthy also threatened to kill her when she tried to leave the room with the girl's body. Bond was also charged for helping dispose of Bella's body - and for taking government benefits for her daughter after her death.
McCarthy's attorney alleged that Bond was actually the murderer, and that's why she hid it from everyone she knew, including Bella's father, Amoroso.
McCarthy, 37, was charged in the killing of Bella Bond, the daughter of his former girlfriend Rachelle Bond.
A computer-generated image of the girl was shared by millions on social media by authorities trying to determine her identity.
"Any lost life is heartbreaking and tragic, but any time someone so young and so innocent is lost, it magnifies the pain and the sorrow to very bad proportions", Suffolk District Attorney Daniel Conley said.

Honestly, I'd be lying if I said I didn't have fun writing about how much I loathe these movies. The breathtaking visuals stand out - you can nearly pinpoint every detail in each scene.
After the verdict, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley thanked the jurors.
McCarthy's attorney, Jonathan Shapiro, said after the verdict that "there is no justice for Bella Bond", and said there would be an appeal. "She was a demon, '" she testified.
"I think it was very hard to determine who actually killed Bella".
Even now, prosecutors can't say for sure what drove McCarthy to kill the child, nor does the law require them to prove motive. She had admitted to lying about her daughter's whereabouts after the girl was killed. When the girl stopped screaming, Bond testified that she saw that the girl's head appeared to be swollen and her face was gray. A friend testified that McCarthy would lock the girl in a closet to discipline her. McCarthy dated Bella's mother. After the trial, she will be released from jail and will serve probation for two years, according to the plea agreement.
Assistant District Attorney Deakin emphasized to the jury that they must not judge McCarthy, Bond and the other individuals involved in the case as a group of addicts.
"In the end, the monster came for that little girl, and it was her mother", Shapiro said.
