Muslims at Finsbury Park Mosque were warned about Islamophobic hate crime by a watch group just three days before a terror attack outside the mosque, which killed one man and injured 10. He was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

Mrs May said that an early assessment by police suggested the attacker "acted alone".

In the tense moments after the attack, some pedestrians pushed the 48-year-old suspect to the ground, The Guardian reported, and Mahmoud, an imam from the Muslim Welfare House, pleaded for calm.

Eight people were taken to hospital, with one since discharged, while two others were treated at the scene.

As for the deceased, it's now unclear if the victim's death was caused by the van assault as officials have noted that the person was receiving first aid when the conflict unfolded.

But the police said they had responded "instantly" as officers were in the immediate vicinity.

A statement from Palmers Green mosque, Oakthorpe Road, said: "As peaceful worshippers readied themselves after Tarawih for their suhoor, they fell victim to a bad attack outside Finsbury Park Mosque".

Britain, especially London, has been on edge over several recent incidents, including last month's terror bombing in Manchester and the recent vehicle attack and stabbing near London Bridge. They further described the attack as the most extreme demonstration of Islamophobia.

"There was this white van stopped outside Finsbury Park mosque that seemed to have hit people who were coming out after prayers had finished".

"I think it's also something, in the case of Islamophobia, there are extremists again who are driving hatred, who are using language about cleansing Britain of Islam, who are talking about a final solution for Muslims", he said.

A spokesman for the centre said the area had been left "horrified" and "shocked" by the attack, but insisted people would not be "driven apart".

In a statement at 04:46 they said the incident was being investigated by counter-terrorism police.

The media was also criticized for being slow to call the incident a terror attack.

The Finsbury Park Mosque - located in a vibrant, multicultural area of north London - was once closely associated with extremism.

The mosque's current leaders say they support inter-faith dialogue and want to serve the nearby community in north London, which is located near Emirates Stadium, home of the Arsenal soccer club.

The Prime Minister did not initially meet the families of those affected by last week's blaze in Kensington, instead holding a private meeting with the emergency services.

Witnesses described hearing the man, who was detained by members of the public at the scene, shout: "I'm going to kill Muslims".

According to the Muslim Council of Britain, the van "intentionally ploughed into a group of worshippers who were already tending to someone who had been taken ill".

"He tried to kill a lot of people so obviously it's a militant attack".
