Chelsea continue talks with Monaco over deal for Bakayoko

Chelsea star keen to join Manchester Utd as Antonio Conte closes in on £42m signing Bakayoko could join Chelsea

Chelsea are in talks to sign Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko in a deal which could lead to Nemanja Matic joining Manchester United, according to a report in the Express.

Musonda is the most likely to head to Monaco in any kind of swap deal, after failing to break into the Chelsea team following his lean move at Real Betis.

Mourinho was keen to sign Matić during his first summer in charge of Manchester United.

The 22-year-old midfielder was one of the stars of the Monaco side that won Ligue 1 last season and reached the semi-finals of the Champions League.

The France worldwide, who has previously attracted interest from Manchester United and Liverpool, is on the cusp of a west London move after the Blues placed a five-year contract on the table.

United remain interest in Tottenham's Eric Dier, but Matic is considered to be a much more viable option.

Had that been the arrangement, the Lions' farewell dinner on Sunday night would have been sparsely attended! "It's two-fold. Lions' manager John Spencer responded to the welcome on behalf of the team, who then replied with a hymn.

This could well be a ploy by Chelsea to bring in suitors for Matic.

N'Golo Kante has been Matic's regular midfield partner at Stamford Bridge and, per M.E.N. Sport, Mourinho wants the Serbian to combine with another Frenchman, Paul Pogba, at Old Trafford.

The report claims that United tried to bring Matic to Old Trafford last summer, but Chelsea manager Antonio Conte refused to sanction a transfer and instead managed to convince the Serbian Spiderbeast to stay and play a key role in the squad.

Bakayoko is reportedly waiting to see if Antonio Conte commits his future to the Blues with Chelsea pushing to tie him down to a new long-term deal.
