Comey Tapes or Not? Trump Promises to Tell in 'Very Near Future'

Sources said that despite being called a liar by the man he fired during yesterday's three-hour Senate intelligence committee grilling, Mr Trump was relieved at the outcome.

Trump didn't answer a question Friday about whether he had recorded his conversations with Comey.

But Trump's critics and detractors found enough reasons in Comey's testimony to allege the president might have crossed the line, leaving himself open to charges of obstructing an ongoing investigation into Flynn.

Trump first alluded to the so-called "tapes" in a May 12 tweet, following Comey's claim of written memos on his personal meetings with the president.

Comey's high-profile testimony also has turned part of the spotlight on Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who is expected to be questioned about Russian Federation next week when he appears before a Senate Appropriations subcommittee.

"What struck me is that it is completely unacceptable for the president to ask the FBI director to be personally loyal to him and to ask the FBI director to drop it with regards to an ongoing investigation into his former national security adviser", said Sen.

Under oath on Thursday, Comey told the Senate Intelligence Committee that he consciously chose to make the memo detailing Trump's request unclassified.

The committee also has sent a letter to Comey, asking for any notes or memoranda in his possession that would describe discussions he had with Trump.

"I found him to be credible, candid and thorough", Collins said of Comey on MSNBC's "Morning Joe".

But Trump continued to tease whether there were recordings of his conversations with Comey.

"I was honestly concerned he might lie about the nature of our meeting", Comey said.
