Courage and self-sacrifice of those who took a stand against London terrorists

At some point, before police had responded, the terrorists noticed a pub full of people called Black and Blue. Then the bouncers tried to shut the door.

Simon Willoughby shared the fundraiser on Facebook yesterday and wrote: "This man's name is Roy Larner a friend of mine for for the past 20 odd years!"

They had these long knives and started shouting about Allah. "Then it was, "Islam, Islam, Islam", Larner said. I thought, "I need to take the piss out of these bastards".

That's a reference to the soccer team he supports, Millwall F.C., the south London club who now play in the second-tier Championship division of English soccer. Maybe that's what prompted Larner's response. "I'd had four or five pints - nothing major".

Mr Larner added: "I was on my own against all three of them, that's why I got hurt so much". Everyone else ran to the back.

The three men got out of the vehicle and proceeded to stab people as they made their way through Borough Market. They got me in my head, chest and both hands.

Roy revealed the group carried on attacking him and stabbed him eight times. "There was blood everywhere". Larner followed them outside and watched as they headed for another nearby pub.

ICC Champions Trophy 2017
Williamson's departure heralded a mini collapse by the Kiwis as they lost the remaining six wickets over the next six overs. His innings was studded with 8 fours and 3 sixes. "We bowled both sides of the wicket and it was pretty ordinary ".

One of those to visit Larner in hospital was Mick Church, who paid tribute to "a true fearless Millwall man through and through who helped so many Saturday now needs help himself" in the comments on the fundraising page. As you can see, his injuries were quite serious.

"Roy Larner charged at the terrorists on London Bridge to try and stop them and help others escape, he ended up getting himself stabbed multiple times", the Change.org petition reads.

The honour is given to civilians who display the "greatest heroism or the most conspicuous courage" in the face of extreme danger. That certainly seems to apply in this case.

A photograph of him in hospital, his arms heavily bandaged, has been widely circulated because a friend has placed a magazine on his lap reading "Learn to Run" in large letters.

Larner is expected to be in the hospital for another week.

Speaking to The Mail Online from the hospital, he said, "I just did what I had to do".
