The chase of the two suspects soon came to an end when the vehicle they had carjacked crashed, causing them to flee into the woods. "They said they put guns to both of their heads".

They were on the run for three days before being apprehended.

Bill Miller, of the Tennessee Highway Patrol, said the inmates were captured at the home after being help at gunpoint by the homeowner, who asked for help from his neighbor who also had a firearm. It's believed the two traveled to that part of Tennessee because they had family in the area. They still had the slain officers guns.

Authorities put up roadblocks, but the following day they discovered that the pair had allegedly stolen a white Ford F250 pickup from an industrial site nine miles from the burglary.

"It happened the way we thought it would", Keenan said.

They ditched their uniforms for stolen clothes when they ransacked a house about 30 miles from where they left the bus, Sills said.

"I saw two brutally murdered corrections officers, that's what I saw", said Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills recalling what he saw on the bus.

"The burden of danger is off", he concluded, "and that is the greatest relief of all".

A quick-thinking armed homeowner held two inmates accused of shooting to death a pair of armed guards at gunpoint until authorities could come arrest them on Thursday night.

"Blood was running out of the bus onto the pavement", Sills said earlier Thursday.

This is a good time for all area residents to again thank all law enforcement personnel for the job they do in keeping the public safe from hardened criminals like Dubose and Rowe and in bringing them to justice. They are now being extradited back to Georgia to face Murder charges, as well as Federal charges for "Unlawful Flight".

Rutherford County Sheriff Michael Fitzhugh said his deputies did not return fire and none of them injured.

"We know how important it was to capture them", said Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Director Mark Gwyn. "My sympathies to the families". "Long story short, the truck that was stolen here was abandoned in Moore County Tennessee, which is Lynchburg", said Sheriff Sills. He also expressed gratitude to all of the law enforcement officers who provided support and assistance in the search. Agents, deputies and police officers were following up on tips phoned in.

The reward for information leading to their capture had been gradually increased from US$60,000 to US$130,000.

Dubose and Donnie Russell Rowe escaped after killing two prison guards during a bus transport in Geo.

Correctional officers Christopher Monica, 42 and Curtis Billue, 58, were both killed, the Georgia Department of Corrections confirmed.

Thirty-one other inmates remained on the bus, idling along the side of the highway.

As word of the inmates' escape spread, photos of the two men emerged on social media.

Both inmates have lengthy criminal records.

Rowe is serving life without parole for armed robbery, the department of corrections said, and Dubose is serving a 20-year sentence for armed robbery. DuBose too was convicted of armed robbery, aggravated assault and theft.
