Five key moments that propelled Pakistan to Champions Trophy glory

India captain Virat Kohli says Fakhar Zaman s cavalier approach was hard to counter as 80 percent of his "high risk shots" came off well during the Champions Trophy final against Paksitan, here today.

Fakhar Zaman raises his bat after scoring maiden century against India.

And then Mohammad Amir's opening burst left India further shell-shocked.

This is Pakistan's first ICC title triumph since their 2009 World Twenty20 win but more importantly it broke the jinx of not performing against India in big ticket matches.

The final margin of 180 runs was the largest run victory by either Pakistan or India in head-to-head One day worldwide matches, and the largest margin of defeat for a full ICC member in a Champions Trophy competition.

It is only the second century stand for Pakistan against India in any ICC ODI tournament.

And then Amir, in the same city in which he committed the spot-fixing offences that led to a five-year ban, found precious movement to destroy the vaunted India batting line-up.

The rest of the Pakistan attack were irresistible, backed up by excellent fielding, all in front of a vibrant, raucous and enthusiastic capacity crowd.

India posted 245. Pakistan reached the last over eight down and 10 runs needed to win.

India, on the other side have looked a balanced side with both their batting and bowling departments having managed to click throughout the tournament.

Talking to media after the team outclassed India, skipper Sarfraz said that the perception about Pakistan team should be changed. Amir, fired up, got Sharma lbw.

It appeared India, chasing 339 to win, had had a lucky break when Kohli, the world's leading one-day worldwide batsman, was dropped on five by first slip Azhar Ali off Amir.

However, from the very next ball, Kohli was squared up and athletically held at point by Shadab Khan, before Shikhar Dhawan edged behind. He could have been run out for one and Jasprit Bumrah appeared to have struck early when he had Zaman edge behind.

Just two weeks ago, Pakistan were at a low ebb after crashing to a humiliating 124-run defeat against India in the group stage.

Fakhar Zaman, the little-known left-hander who made his debut in their second game, lit up a showpiece match with 114 from 106 balls.

Apart from Zaman (114), Azhar Ali (59), Mohammad Hafeez (57 not out) and Babar Azam (46) also contributed handsomely to Pakistan's cause.

Pakistan: Sarfraz Ahmed (captain and wicket-keeper), Ahmed Shehzad, Azhar Ali, Babar Azam, Mohammad Hafeez, Shoaib Malik, Hasan Ali, Mohammad Amir, Rumman Raees, Junaid Khan, Imad Wasim, Fahim Ashraf, Shadab Khan, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Sohail. Congratulations to Pakistan. The way they turned things around, it was incredible. The match between the two sides is always special. Credit to Pakistan; they outplayed us.

Kumar Sangakkara, the former Sri Lanka batsman, praised Pakistan's performance in the final. "I am over the moon".

Unfortunately, till Sunday morning, half of the country wasn't even aware that there is a hockey match between India and Pakistan on Sunday evening but as the wickets kept tumbling ion London, more and more TV sets started to switch channels.
