How to watch Mark Zuckerberg's Harvard commencement speech

Lamar Ellis | 07 June, 2017, 05:39

Facebook Founder Mark Zuckerberg recently gave a commencement speech at Harvard, which is ironic since he dropped out of the school upon creating the social media site.

Mr. Zuckerberg's speech focused on goal as a pillar of fostering community, effecting social and political progress and redefining equality.

"If I had to support my family growing up instead of having the time to learn how to code, if I didn't know that I was going to be fine if Facebook didn't work out, I wouldn't be standing up here today", he said.

One of the world's richest people, the Facebook CEO spoke with admiration of the student's attitude in the face of his uncertain situation.

As rumors have swirled that Zuckerberg could run for president in the future, he pushed for universal basic income, affordable child care, health care that isn't tied to one company and continuous education.

On Wednesday, he said his upcoming speech would "share what I've learned about our generation and the world we're all building together".

March Zuckerberg has been in Cambridge, Massachusetts, for the past few days, visiting Harvard University, the school from which he dropped out to launchFacebook.

The CEO says that in history, the millennials are one of the most charitable generations. In just one year, more than three in four US millennials donated to charity and more than seven in 10 raised money for another one.

"It is good to be idealistic". But you should be really prepared to get misunderstood.

On Thursday, Zuckerberg - now a multibillionaire - also received an honorary degree from Harvard and delivered a commencement address at the university. Without a sense of objective, people will turn towards isolationism, nationalism and authoritarianism, instead of openness and global community, he said.

Zuckerberg said that on his tour around the states, he met opioid addicts and others who had fallen on hard times with factory closings, who said they might not have suffered if they had something to do.

"This is the struggle of our time. This is not a battle between nations, it's a battle of ideas" he added.

Zuckerberg returned to the university where he launched what would become the world´s biggest social network, and basked in the spotlight by receiving an honorary doctor of laws degree and addressing the 2017 commencement. Last week, Zuckerberg posted a video of his reaction when he got into Harvard.
