One of the attackers, Khuram Shazad Butt, had appeared in a documentary "The Jihadis Next Door" and was known to investigators but police said he was not believed to be plotting an attack.

Scotland Yard said he was known to police and MI5 but there was no intelligence to suggest an attack.

Condemning the London Bridge attack in which seven people were killed and 48 were injured, Facebook has said it wants to be "a hostile environment for terrorists".

Late on Saturday the three attackers drove south across London Bridge, mowing down pedestrians before stabbing bystanders in the nearby Borough Market area.

Twenty-two people died last month in a suicide bombing at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester.
