Bill Cosby, center, arrives with Comedian Joe Torry, right, for his sexual assault trial at the Montgomery County Courthouse in Norristown Friday.
Prosecutors would be able to grill the Cosby on the lurid details of his decade-old deposition testimony that jurors heard Friday, including admissions that he obtained quaaludes to give to women he wanted sex with.
Back in 2005, the actor said in a deposition he received seven prescriptions for Quaaludes over a period of two to three years, with the intent of giving them to women he was going to have sex with.
He said: "I apologized but my apology was, 'My God, I'm in trouble with these people because this is a dirty old man with a young girl.' And the mother seizes on this...."
During the deposition, Mr Cosby told lawyers he knew his finances could suffer if the public was told he had drugged and assaulted someone. The defense has questioned Constand's continued contact with Cosby after the alleged assault and conflicting reports of when the incident occurred. He later settled for an undisclosed sum. The defence will begin its case on Monday.
Rohrig also testified that Constand's symptoms were similar to the physical effects associated with quaaludes, a powerful sedative.
"We are weighing all our options", Wyatt said. Wyatt, as Cosby and his entourage left the courthouse for the day, added Cosby is "feeling great".
Judge Steven T. O'Neill sustained the objection.
Qatar Lauds Russia's Offer on Food Supplies Amid Row With Arab States
President Donald Trump backed a move by some Arab states to pressure Doha over alleged militant financing. It said Qatar was acting in "accordance with its firm beliefs and principles".
The deposition was read by a Pennsylvania police sergeant in the Norristown, Pennsylvania, courtroom.
"I've warned this court that this woman has been rooting for the Commonwealth in this case", he said, saying Valliere has made posts on social media "declaring victory". "We're over the telephone and I'm not sending anything over the mail and I'm not giving away anything", Cosby testified.
Earlier in the week (ends09Jun17), Constand had recounted the alleged incident for the jury, and claimed she had tried to confront Cosby, her mentor, about his behaviour on the night in question.
Cosby also told police that Constand never asked what type of pills he had given her that evening. The former director of women's basketball operations at Temple said Cosby placed her on a couch, touched her breasts, forced her to touch his penis and performed digital penetration all without her consent. Prosecutors have suggested he gave her something stronger - perhaps quaaludes, a highly popular party drug in the 1970s that was banned in the United States in 1982. An analysis of the pills conducted by National Medical Services in August 2015 determined the pink pills to be Benadryl.
The final prosecution witness, toxicologist Dr. Timothy Rohrig, testified that wooziness and other effects Constand described could have been caused by Benadryl or quaaludes. "It can and has been used as a drug to facilitate sexual assaults", testified Rohrig, adding quaaludes, which are now illegal in the USA, are also sedatives and can cause similar side-effects. It took Constand a year to come forward.
Veronique Valliere, a psychologist and expert on victim response to sexual assault, testified for prosecutors that there are numerous reasons why sex assault victims delay reporting, including embarrassment or a fear of being judged.
Cosby's lawyers asked for a mistrial, complaining that Valliere was offering observations about Cosby even though she was only allowed to testify generally about victim behavior. The judge rejected the request.
The 79-year-old entertainer could spend the rest of his life in prison if he's convicted of drugging and molesting a woman at his suburban Philadelphia home in 2004. But he said in the deposition that he did not intend to get the foundation involved in the proposed payments to Andrea Constand.
