The driver was arrested and taken for questioning.

According to the statement by the Amsterdam police, the auto was parked at a place where was not allowed, after which police officers told the vehicle driver about his obstruction.

In a sign of the heightened tensions, a Dutch man was also arrested late Friday after being caught filming outside one of the country's largest stadiums during a concert, police said.

At least eight people were injured after a auto crashed into a wall at the Amsterdam Central Station in the Netherlands, police said.

The news came a week after three attackers in a van mowed down pedestrians in London before going on a stabbing spree, killing eight people and injuring 48.

Catalonia announces independence referendum
Madrid argues that the Spanish constitution leaves no room for regional secession votes, let alone for secession itself. Puigdemont's announcement came after multiple failed attempts to agree on a referendum date with the Madrid government.

Of the eight injured people, two were severely injured and taken to the hospital.

The station remained open following the incident, although the entrance near the site of the crash was closed.

The first images from the Amsterdam incident area showed a major police presence around the railway station with first aid responders treating one person.

No further details were immediately provided, including whether police believed the incident was a terror attack.
