The federal judge approved the sum, but ruled to keep the terms of the settlement secret out of safety for Michael Brown, Sr., and Lesley McSpadden, reports USA Today.

The family of slain 18-year-old Michael Brown has reached a settlement in their wrongful death suit and many have attacked the victim by calling him "thug" and accused his mother and father of being bad parents.

The amount of the settlement agreement has been sealed to the public.

Officer Darren Wilson was not charged in Brown's death. The St. Louis-Dispatch reports that the amount was likely less than Ferguson's $3 million insurance limit.

Almost three years after their son's death sparked nationwide protests, the parents of Michael Brown have settled their wrongful death lawsuit against the city of Ferguson, Mo.

In a statement made by the presiding judge, U.S. District Judge E. Richard Webber, The public policy to consider records open is outweighed by the adverse impact to Plaintiffs. But some witnesses said Brown had his hands up when Wilson fired. Their lawsuit alleged Wilson was unreasonably aggressive when he stopped Brown and used excessive force when he fired on him, all in violation of his civil rights.

Their lawsuit says that a police culture of pervasive hostility toward African-Americans led to the death of Michael Brown on August 9, 2014.

Ferguson, Mr Jackson and Mr Wilson denied the allegations. The officer was responding to a police dispatch about a reported robbery at a convenience store, and said Brown had matched the descriptions of one of the suspects.

A Justice Department investigation into Ferguson's law enforcement system following the shooting exposed police and courts routinely violated black residents' civil rights, and culminated in a consent decree between the city and the DOJ.
