Potential Changes In Trump Administration's Communications Approach

Connie Andrews | 03 June, 2017, 02:30

Trump has consistently laid the groundwork for a close working relationship with Russian Federation - and now his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, is being accused of creating a secret back channel to the Kremlin prior to the election and not disclosing his intentions to the appropriate governmental agencies. Trump himself has also reportedly offered up his personal cell phone number to world leaders.

House Democrats said they want Kushner's security clearance revoked "to protect national security". Kasowitz, a longtime Trump lawyer, was recently brought to the White House to serve as the lead attorney to defend the president in the Russian Federation probe.

"We are so easily distracted by the little things, if it is a little thing", Bierbauer, a former president of the White House Correspondents" Association, told VOA.

Trump revived an old nickname for the Democrat Wednesday, tweeting that, "Crooked Hillary Clinton now blames everybody but herself, refuses to say she was a bad candidate".

"I think Mike is a very capable guy", Mr. Lewandowksi said. Trump denies any collusion between Russian Federation and his campaign and has questioned the veracity of the US intelligence finding.

Kushner enjoys a level of trust with his father-in-law that eludes most top White House aides, one person close to Trump said.

USA intelligence agencies reported in January that Russian President Vladimir Putin oversaw a campaign of computer hacking, fake news and propaganda meant to swing the election to Republican Trump over his Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton.

Critics say that before Trump was inaugurated, Kushner made efforts to open a "back-channel" communications link with Russian officials.

Committee aides complained that the chairman, Representative Devin Nunes, who publicly recused himself from leading the Russian Federation probe in April following a secret visit he paid to White House officials, failed to consult Democrats on the subpoenas. Spicer's gambit likely wouldn't have stopped the questions anyway, but Trump's constant downplaying of the investigation on Twitter and elsewhere will ensure that.

"Do you think people should be concerned that the president posted a somewhat incoherent tweet last night, and then it stayed up for hours?" a reporter asks Spicer in the recording taken from the audio-only conference.

The letter, which was released publicly, also asked Kushner Companies what steps it has taken to ensure its affiliates do not exploit Jared Kushner's White House role when wooing investors in the future.

Most people are not buying Spicer's explanation of the viral gaffe. He has helped arrange CEO meetings at the White House, which the president uses as a public illustration of his pro-business positions.

White House communications director Michael Dubke announced his resignation Tuesday, saying it had been an honor to serve Trump.
