Now, according to The Washington Post, special counsel Robert Mueller is also looking into the Kushner's business dealings.
The White House maintained Kushner's meeting with Gorkov was a mere pre-inauguration diplomatic encounter and was in no way related to business. The special counsel's office did not respond to a request for comment on the report.
Special counsel Robert Mueller has brought 13 lawyers on board for his investigation into Russia's interference in the 2016 election. Mr. Kushner previously volunteered to share with Congress what he knows about Russia-related matters. "He will do the same if he is contacted in connection with any other inquiry", he added.
Kushner is also close to former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn who was sacked by Trump in February after he misled Vice President Mike Pence about the contents and nature of his communications with Kislyak.
The Washington Post was first to break the news of the investigation on Thursday.
Gorkov's state-owned bank Vnesheconombank (VEB) has been under US sanctions since 2014. Last month it emerged that Kushner was under scrutiny for his meetings with Russian officials, including ambassador Sergey Kislyak and Sergey Gorkov, the head of a state-owned Russian bank, both held in December as part of the transition period.

On Thursday, the Post reported that Vice President Mike Pence has retained outside counsel to help him weather whatever storm might come his way. He was one of the architects of Trump's recent foreign trip, which especially in its visits to Saudi Arabia and Israel went smoothly and mostly gaffe-free.
Comey also said Trump repeatedly sought assurances that he wasn't a target of the Russian Federation investigation.
Before he met with the president, Comey gathered his leadership team at the Federal Bureau of Investigation to discuss with them whether he should be prepared to assure then-President-elect Trump that the Federal Bureau of Investigation was not investigating him personally.
Mueller is also investigating whether President Donald Trump attempted to obstruct justice, The Washington Post reported Wednesday.
