Trump promised during his campaign that he would move the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem al-Quds, but in a reversal, signed an order on June 1 keeping the embassy in Tel Aviv, at least for now.

Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., the majority leader, and Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., the minority leader, was approved 90-0 on Thursday evening, the precise anniversary of Israel's capture of eastern Jerusalem in 1967.

Strange, who cosponsored the resolution, expressed renewed confidence in the American-Israeli relationship, recognized Jerusalem as home to the holy sites of three world religions, and commended Israel and the combatant nations of the Six Day War of 1967, Egypt and Jordan, for their commitment to upholding peace in the half century since the conflict.

"Jerusalem should remain the undivided capital of Israel in which the rights of every ethnic and religious group are protected", the resolution states, adding that "there has been a continuous Jewish presence in Jerusalem for 3 millennia". That law, passed in 1995, has been routinely waived by presidents of both parties.

While Trump's postponement of the embassy move was welcomed in Palestine, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu couldn't hide his disappointment.

Oklahoma gets grace period on REAL ID compliance
The feds say Washington state's extension from the REAL ID Act requirements will expire July 10 - at least for now. Tuesday, federal officials said they would make a decision in mid July on whether or not to grant the extension.

Trump "has repeatedly stated his intention to move the embassy, the question is not if that move happens, but only when", White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said after the president signed the waiver.

"Israel's consistent position is that the US Embassy, as well as the rest of the embassies, should be in Jerusalem", his office said in a statement.

"I was proud to sponsor this resolution, which reaffirms the Jerusalem Embassy Act of 1995 that states Jerusalem should remain an undivided city and Israel's capital - in which the rights of every ethnic and religious group are celebrated, valued and protected".

The Senate on Monday unanimously voted on a resolution commemorating the 50th anniversary of Jerusalem's reunification.

"The resolution also affirms our longstanding policy to achieve peaceful coexistence via direct negotiations that achieve a two-state solution".
