The Detroit Tigers designated hitter remained hospitalized as of Friday afternoon.

"He's not feeling well", Ausmus said after the game "He got cold sweats, dizzy and his heart was racing".

Good news surfaced for the Detroit Tigers and Victor Martinez on Saturday when the designated hitter was released from the hospital.

"It's a little scary", Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said, per ESPN. The following day, it was announced that he had been placed on the 10-day DL with an irregular heartbeat and had been hospitalized. Through 60 games this year, Martinez had been hitting.261/.337/.376 (93 OPS+) with five home runs and 29 RBI. He's under contract with the Tigers through the end of the 2018 season.

The Tigers called up catcher/first baseman John Hicks from Triple-A Toledo. He will be out of commission for a couple of weeks with Miguel Cabrera taking over as the primary DH and Alex Avila starting at first base, just as they are on Friday. Cabrera is dealing with back and groin problems and hadn't homered since May 20.
