Women have long struggled to get behind the camera of Hollywoods biggest productions.

Wonder Womanwas a box office smash on its opening weekend, raking in more than $100 million domestically - a new record for a movie directed by a woman. As per Warner Bros, the film has amassed Rs 7.40 crore (net) in its opening weekend collection in India. Wonder Woman hit theatres on June 2. With a current Rotten Tomatoes score of 93%, the film ranks higher than most of Marvel and DC's superhero flicks. The studio said Monday that the tickets sold on Sunday turned out to be even higher than it estimated over the weekend.

It's an awesome scene, not only because it's all about Diana taking on her role as the hero that will become Wonder Woman for the first time, but also because it shows her not being a savior, but being a leader.

"I really do think the trepidation was there were failed attempts and then that wasn't who you were targeting for such a massive movie, so I think that has really changed".

"I'm not a big obligation person when it comes to art. Because I want to see the signal that that will send to the world". It's given a much-needed boost to the DC Extended Universe, with reviews that are much better than those for 2016's disappointing "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" and "Suicide Squad".

Everybody needs Wonder Woman, to be honest.

Warner Bros' distribution chief Jeff Goldstein said: "Globally this property has just resonated with fans".

That was decidedly not the case heading into the weekend. Though Dark Knight and Dark Knight Rises both bested Wonder Woman's opening weekend, the trilogy's first film, Batman Begins, raked in only $48.7 million in 2005, rendering Batman another one of Wonder Woman's box office victims.

That's been especially hard-to-miss this summer.

“It shows that superhero movies arent just about men. When Diana is reminded of why she left home and traveled to the frontlines, the sight of war doesn't deter her, it only makes her more ready to fight. Some elements and character arcs also go unexplained, leaving viewers with questions at the end. Her fellow jury member Maren Ade, the German director of "Toni Erdmann", spoke about the dearth of female filmmakers.

". You and I are serious men of substance with little time for the delicate sensitivities displayed by the pitiful creature who maligned your good name and sterling character by writing that abysmal email", his equally lengthy response read in part. Steve will consequently sacrifice himself for the good of the world, no matter how much they love their lady on the ground, and even if they haven't had that one dance. And this in a summer season that was down 9% from past year going into this weekend.

Next week, Lucia Aniello, a writer and director from "Broad City", will release her bachelorette comedy "Rough Night". It was 9 per cent in 1998. They arrive at a field dubbed "No Man's Land" across which the Germans and the British had been locked in a standoff for over a year.

And, of course, it's a triumph for Patty Jenkins - the first woman to ever direct a big-budget superhero movie.

Super hero movies are all the rage these days - and have been for a decade or so, at least - but in the years since Marvel, DC, and the like renewed their interest in slugging it out on the silver screen, the whole trend has been a bit of a "boy's club". "The female talent is there, it is the hiring process and the imaginations of executives and producers that represent the true barrier to progress".
