An acrobat fell 100 feet to his death during a performance before Green Day took the stage at a music fest in Spain. and the fatal moment was caught on video.

They released a statement saying they were sorry for the incident, but had chose to continue with the final act of the night "for security reasons".

It read: "Mad Cool Festival regrets the bad accident that an acrobat suffered during the second day of the festival".

Green Day, meanwhile, say their "thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends".

"We just got off stage at Mad Cool Festival to disturbing news", they wrote.

They decided not to cancel the Green Day concert due to "security reasons".

Mr Monroy was director of In Fact performing arts company in Portslade, Brighton. According to the Independent, he appeared to be wearing a harness at the time.

The 42-year-old acrobat was performing in a brightly lit cage to Prince's "Purple Rain" at the Mad Cool festival in Madrid.

"I regret to tell you he died today", his sister Estefi Chaje posted on Facebook.

Estefi Chaje wrote: To all the friends of my brother Pedro Aunion Monroy. "He was doing what he loved the most".

"I've just seen a guy fall and die, all projected on the giant screen".

According to that report, Monroy had made a final Facebook post on Thursday, showing an artistic image of himself with his British boyfriend with the caption that he couldn't wait to see his attractive boyfriend.

"We send our most honest condolences to all his family", the statement said.

On Saturday the festival will "pay an emotional tribute to the artist", the statement added.

After only a slight delay, Green Day's set continued as scheduled. "We are torn apart".
