The parents of baby Charlie Gard stormed out of a pre-court hearing after a lawyer representing Great Ormond Street Hospital in London broke the news that new brain scan of the terminally ill baby made for "sad reading", the UK's Press Association reported Friday.
In a statement, Mr Gard said: "Without the excellent care of the doctors at GOSH [Great Ormond Street Hospital] our son would not even be alive and not a day goes by when we don't remember that".
Scotland Yard has been informed and the hospital has warned it will seek the prosecution of anyone suspected of threatening its staff.
A British court is expected to decide next week whether baby Charlie can be taken to the U.S. for treatment after other British and European courts said the infant's life support should be ended so that he can die with dignity.
Charlie was born with a rare genetic disorder, a form of mitochondrial disease, which causes progressive muscle wasting and brain damage.
His parents are fighting to get him more medical care but Great Ormond Street Hospital has said the experimental treatment will not work and will just cause more suffering. Staff have received abuse both in the street and on line. In some cases parents of other sick children have been harassed while trying to visit, they said.
Charlie Gard's case is a heart-breaking one.

The healthcare segment saw revenues rise 4% to $4.7 billion and transportation segment revenues fell 14% to $1.07 billion. GE reported $29.6 billion in revenue for the second quarter, down 12 percent from the same period past year .
Charlie's parents want to take him to NY for experimental treatment, which the United States doctor said might give him a 10% chance of improving his health.
Hospital officials said they had been in contact with London's Metropolitan Police Service over the threats.
"We recognise the tireless advocacy of Charlie's loving parents and the natural sympathy people feel with his situation".
Ms MacLeod said: 'In recent weeks the hospital community has been subjected to a shocking and disgraceful tide of hostility and disturbance.
"Whatever the strong emotions raised by this case, there can be no excuse for patients and families to have their privacy and peace disturbed as they deal with their own often very stressful situations or for dedicated doctors and nurses to suffer this kind of abuse". Charlie Gard's case is truly tragic and the whole nation sympathises with his parents. "There is no place for this abuse and it has to stop".
Charlie's parents then took the case to the Court of Appeal which was heard on May 23 with the court dismissing the appeal two days later.
However, a hearing at the High Court has been scheduled to discuss fresh evidence from two global hospitals about nucleoside therapy.
