Delta Airlines Hits Back: Calls Ann Coulter's Insults 'Unacceptable'

A Delta spokesman told CNBC the airline's social media and customer care teams had reached out to Coulter several times and that it had connected with her by Sunday evening.

(DAL) has been called the worst airline in America by conservative columnist Ann Coulter after the carrier reportedly gave her seat away Saturday.

"If you thought it was about $30, @Delta, why didn't you give this woman $30 and let me stay in my PRE-BOOKED, ASSIGNED seat?" she wrote, sharing a picture of the woman who was placed in her seat.

Delta first became aware of the issue with Coulter's seat assignment when she began tweeting on July 15 after the flight's arrival. She also compared Delta employees to prison guards and the former East German secret police.

Delta's statement came in response to Coulter's bashing of the airline on Twitter.

Coulter then began drudging up old, negative articles about Delta, which is when they made a decision to hit back in an epic way. At the time of boarding, the airline said it moved Coulter to another window seat on the same row to accommodate seating requests from other passengers.

"We are sorry that the customer did not receive the seat she reserved and paid for".

While people are usually sympathetic to passengers who have high-profile customer service problems with airlines, a lot of people on Twitter were apparently pleased with Coulter's Delta despair.

"Her actions are unnecessary and unacceptable".

The airline responded to Coulter Sunday night on Twitter as well as in a statement on its website, saying that it would refund her the extra $30 she paid for her pre-booked seat.

Coulter, a prominent supporter of U.S. President Donald Trump during his campaign, tweeted vociferously about the incident, which took place on a three-hour flight from New York's LaGuardia Airport to West Palm Beach in Florida on Saturday. And we hold each other accountable when that does not happen. Then she insulted the passenger, calling her a "dachshund-legged woman".
